  1. Interesting. I am looking at a couple of 16 years olds at the minute in the training platoon in Maffra in 1916. One was even written about in the newspaper as being known as the "baby of the platoon"
    I suspect eyes were closed - he was training in his local area, and everyone would have known his age.

  2. Connived is the word I would use. It is quite plain that they did this. Of course the locals knew how old he was.
