Broken at Fleurbaix, 1916

Ruins of the Fleurbaix Church, 1918.  http://cas.awm.gov.au/item/E03724
The Fleurbaix Church was ruined in the shelling during the battle of Fromelles.  Sapper John Turnbull Usher, of Garden Street, Essendon, somehow survived the disaster at Fromelles, but was hospitalised with illness and was evacuated to England.  Read Rod Martin's story about Sapper Usher here.
